R-410A Certification

Because many HFC refrigerants, such as R-410A, operate at considerably higher pressures than many other refrigerants, safety training is imperative. R-410A systems will require service professionals to use different tools and equipment when installing, retrofitting, or repairing these systems.

Currently HFC refrigerants, including R-410A, are not covered under the refrigerant sales restriction of the Clean Air Act Amendments, and, at this time the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency does not require or mandate a separate certification for the handling of these refrigerants. Nevertheless, many equipment manufacturers are well aware of the concerns and safety issues of working with HFC refrigerants and are requiring service professionals who purchase their R-410A systems to be certified through each of their own independent programs and/or show proof of attending their training seminar.
