Description

This book is written to allow individuals to better understand the steps involved in the design and installation of a geothermal heat pump system.

Overview

This book focuses chiefly on the design and installation of the ground heat exchanger (GHX) in a geothermal heat pump (GHP) system. It spells out the steps required for a contractor to execute the basic design of a residential or light commercial GHX, and to carry that design forward into the layout, installation, testing, and operational phases of the system. Many different trades and contractors may be involved in installing ground heat exchangers. This book is intended for those piping, excavating, or HVAC contractors who perform the work of design, layout, and installation of a GHX only. Information will be limited to the actual HVAC mechanical portion of a GHP system as it relates to the design and performance of the ground heat exchanger. Individuals reading this book should have a basic understanding of piping systems and excavation. Material presented in this book generally conforms to the “best practices” of the geothermal heat pump design and installation industry, and is not intended to be understood as presenting the only correct methods available. This book is written to allow individuals to better understand the steps involved in the design and installation of a GHP system.
